After the culmination of a year-long appeal process of my medical disqualification from the Special Agent application process with the federal government, I finally received medical clearance in May 2018 and was hired as a Special Agent. This victory stands as a testament that diabetes does not have to be an impediment to achieving dreams. This is not only my victory, but a victory for all diabetics who feel as though this condition must hold them back. With persistence, dedication, and the right perspective, we can do anything. We can climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. We can become professional athletes. We can be movie stars. Race car drivers. We can be police officers, fire fighters, EMTs. And we can be Special Agents, too.
I remained with the Secret Service until August 2022, at which time I accepted a position as a Special Agent with the U.S. Department of Justice.
