Event: JDRF Teen Talk

Teenage years can be a tough time, and diabetes brings extra challenges. Teen Talk provides teens, ages 13-20, an opportunity to connect, share tips and make new friends. Two young adults living with T1D (one male, one female) join Teen Talk to help facilitate conversation and answer questions. Teen Talk is a great place for teens to meet others, share tips and form new friendships! Parents are also provided with an opportunity to connect and share experiences in a separate space.

The Annual Meeting of the Garden State Association of Diabetes Educators will include various speakers (including myself) in the diabetes field along with vendors, lunch, dinner, and a social event.

Event: Monthly Support Group for T1D Families

Kids meet in the craft room for games and activities while the parents chat in an adjoining room. Subjects include, the Newly Diagnosed family, back to school, 504 plans, nutrition, current issues and more. Light refreshments are served.

Event: Type One Nation Summit

Type One Nation is a free, educational summit for the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community where experts come together to share their knowledge on the latest treatments, breakthroughs in research, and psycho-social aspects of living with T1D. Join other individuals, families, and caregivers affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) at all life stages for a day of education and connection. Talk to experts about research advances, meet with other attendees to exchange ideas, and participate in discussions important to you. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

I am excited to share that at this event I'll be leading one of the breakout sessions focusing on teens with diabetes and the struggles that adolscents in particular must overcome while #WrestlingTheDragon.

Event: AWARE for All

On Thursday, September 28th, 2017 in Newark, local community members, patients, and research professionals will come together to learn about clinical research, get free health screenings, and hear from physician and patient speakers. There will also be a panel specifically focused on diabetes management in which I will be participating.

AWARE for All is a free educational program that provides valuable information and resources on the clinical research process to help people make informed decisions about participation. The event serves as a platform for dialogue between local patients, members of the public, and research professionals. This program is made possible by the incredible community partners we collaborate with in every city.

Event: Asbury Park Ghosts and Legends Walking Tour

Event: BBQ Launch Party

Young Leadership Committee (YLC) brings the passion and philanthropic power of young professionals together who want to make an impact on the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community and believe in JDRF’s efforts to cure T1D.

The YLC will provide an outlet for 20 and 30-somethings who are interested in networking, advocating, fundraising and spreading awareness of JDRF’s mission to treat, prevent and cure T1D.

Event: Dinner of Champions

On September 18, 2017, the American Diabetes Association will host its Inaugural NYC Dinner of Champions to recognize extraordinary individuals who have made significant contributions in the fight against diabetes in their personal and professional communities. This event will serve to celebrate our achievements on building healthier lives, free of diabetes and all its burdens. The purpose of the event is to highlight the achievements of the ADA in the areas of medicine,research, education and philanthropy. The guest list will include leading researchers, health care providers, community leaders, and corporate sponsors. Everyone joined in the fight against the diabetes epidemic.

Organization: Casino Pier/Breakwater Beach in support of the JDRF

Event: JDRF/FARE Fundraiser Crab Race

On Saturday August 26th (raindate August 27th) at 5:00pm, artificial plastic crabs will be released from Patriot’s Plunge into the Revolutionary River at Breakwater Beach in a race to benefit Juvenile Diabetes and Food Allergy Research Education. Winning crab gets $100 and 10 All-Day Passes to Breakwater Beach for the 2018 season. LOTS of other prizes will be awarded too. You can purchase your crab at Breakwater Beach Waterpark. All proceeds from the event go directly to JDRF and FARE in hopes of finding a cure for these diseases.
